A regular wooden broom handle works extremely well for this. Next, about halfway down the rope tie in a half-hitch to form an additional line. Make the loop as slack as possible. Next warp around this side, and put your rope through the loop. This will create a kind of pulley effect. Now tighten up both ends of the rope as well as you can and your trucker’s hitch is ready.

Timber Hitch

This knot has long been the standby for arborists and lumberjacks since it is ideal for lashing logs, tree trunks and wooden poles together. Timber hitches are actually a kind of pseudo-noose that is often wrapped around such items as poles, planks and logs so that they can be towed away. Thus, the name “timber” since it does indeed typically deal with wood products quite a bit. This knot is strong and it is easy to be duplicated, tied in a perfect, straight chain. To get started, simply pass one end of the rope through the other to make a standard loop.
