Dactylorhiza fuchsii

Rosettes of often beautifully patterned, dark green leaves emerge in late spring, producing tall spikes of white or pinkish white flowers with scribbled markings on the lips. Occurring throughout Europe and Asia, common spotted orchids can be found blooming in their thousands in meadows and around woodland margins. The closely related southern marsh orchid (D. praetermissa) is another desirable garden plant, but requires wetter conditions such as a pond margin.
