Loaf Cake

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup butter

1 egg yolk

1 3/4 cups cake flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

3/4 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/3 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

1/4 cup nut meats (optional)

1 egg white

Cream the butter and the sugar. Add the egg yolk and beat the batter well. Add the flour, sifted with the baking powder, alternately with the milk. Add the flavoring and last fold in the stiffly beaten egg white. Bake the cake in a small greased pan in a moderate oven 350°.
