SATURDAY 25th. Therm.r. Noon 34. Winds NW. Course N 481/4° E. Dist. Sailed 84 Miles. Lat. in South 66°23'. Longde. in West Reck.g. 135°7' Long. made C. Pallisser 49°32'. In the PM the wind veer'd more to the West, the gale abated and the sky cleared up and presented to our view the many islands of ice we had escaped during the Fog. At 6 o'Clock being in Latitude 67°o' s, Longde the same as yesterday at noon, the variation was observed to be 15°26' East. As we advanced to the NE with a gentle gale at NW the ice increased so fast upon us that at Noon no less than 90 or 100 large islands were seen round us besides innumberable smaller pieces.26
