The Final Stage
We are currently in the early stages of the Intelligence of Things era, with just a few devices that are fully recruitable. But we expect that more will appear on the market in the near future. In this chapter, we believe we have shown that the arrival of such devices is not only inevitable, but also will presage a dramatic increase in the utility of IoT and of inverted businesses. As more and more designers and engineers create products that can run software applications and build APIs that are accessible to the end user, a nearly limitless ecosystem of intended and unintended functions will arise throughout the economy. Some will be novelties, but others will spark new products, business lines, and businesses for which inversion is the core mission.
In other words, with the Intelligence of Things, inversion will cease to be a reactive or accidental consequence of start-ups seeking a seam in the market or large companies trying to keep up with more agile competitors. Inversion will simply become how business is done.
That opens the door for the next stage: the Immersion of Things.
