Fear in forests, indeed in Nature, propels action, creates alertness, and leads to focused listening. The sounds that you and I cannot hear are picked up by living beings in Nature. The quality of this fear is protective and listening is a necessary aid for protection. In this case, can we say that in Nature it is not ‘listening’, but merely ‘hearing’? ‘Hearing’ it is, but we cannot completely rule out listening. It could be listening of a lower level without complex cognitive ability. The systemic interdependencies in Nature are so beautifully tuned in that despite the cycles of life and death, the rhythm of life and maturation, the natural flow of transition and transformation is continuous. Natural forces, when left to their own devices, move forward and transform themselves. It is the way of Nature. So is listening; it is just meant to be. It is a truth of transformation similar to birth and death.
Life and death are expressions of listening. They are responses to listened eternal truths. Even if we don’t want to listen to it, in the final existential truth, it will take place like birth and death. Resistances to listening are built by our mind at all the three levels of the conscious, the subconscious, and the unconscious.
