Time your tree trimming.

Countless squirrels, raccoons, and birds are displaced when gardeners and landscapers cut down trees during nesting season. Before pruning or removing vegetation, check for signs of habitation, or better yet, wait until after leaves have fallen and families have moved on. If you inadvertently displace a nest of squirrels or birds, put the babies in a wicker basket or similar container; hang it from a branch or attach it to the tree trunk out of direct sunlight and monitor from a distance. (It’s a myth that parents will reject babies who’ve been handled by humans.) If you see no signs of the parents’ return, call a wildlife rehabilitator for further assistance.
