The first picture is a standard board mount capacitor, they can sometimes produce noises when they start to dry up. Even more common when it comes to problems is the Surface mount Electrolytic capacitor.

These miniaturized versions of their full size counterparts are normally rated in Hundreds of hours of use.

Yep..Hundreds of hours! And they are used in virtually every electronic device today. The biggest problem they cause is when they get old, a lot of them start to leak.That spells trouble. The fluid is highly corrosive and will eat the copper traces right off the board as seen in picture. Sometimes you can smell the corrosive juices as well. If you get a wiff of something that smells like fish oil, that’s a leaky cap!
