Let’s observe some large cacti at a botanical garden

Botanical gardens offer a great opportunity to see a wide variety of succulents and cacti. Their greenhouses may contain some wonderful rare plants.

From top to bottom: A bush of Mammillaria. They grow in beautiful clusters that give a sense of their original home.

These Lilacina are growing beautifully.

These Golden barrels (Echinocactus grusonii) are around 20 to 30 years old and have very strong spines.

Nicknames

Some succulents and cacti have interesting nicknames owing to their quirky looks. For example, the genus below is often called “Button cactus” and “Pingpong ball” cactus owing to their shapes. They have other nicknames in other parts of the world as well.
