Relying on her keen TASTE MEMORY, Hazan elegantly re-created the dishes of her Emilia-Romagna childhood, began giving cooking lessons, and was eventually discovered by CRAIG CLAIBORNE. Often posited as “the Italian JULIA CHILD,” though the chain-smoking, no-nonsense Hazan willfully resists coming off as cuddly and is mildly peeved by the comparison.
