CHAPTER NINE

NEW AND OLD FORMS OF FLOWER HOLDERS

HAVING had unusual opportunities for collecting flower holders, and considerable practise in using them, there are several which were not before described that I should like to advocate.

There is one in particular when no sticks are to be had large enough to make the usual forked kubari, that will be found very useful. This can be made from the ends of the stems of whatever flowers are being used. It is made as follows: Split the stem of the flower directly in half for at least five inches, cut from some flower not to be used several stems a trifle wider than the mouth of the vase, into the slits already made insert these shorter pieces of stem horizontally and place in the vase as cut shows. In some instances two or three flowers may be placed over one horizontal stem.
