Chapter Six

Colton

One Week Later

As I pace the floor of my parent’s basement, I wish I could go back in time. But when would I go back to? Seven days ago? Before I kissed, tasted, and pleasured Willow? That’s not far enough.

Before I came back? No. Farther. Before the day we played chicken. That might work.

No. It wouldn’t. I was a goner over her before then. Hell, I was sixteen the first time I noticed her hair shone under the dining room lights and her lips were the sweetest pink.

That’s the day. I want to go back before the Sunday night when her mom made the fried chicken and mashed potatoes, and my thigh accidentally brushed against hers. Back to when she was just Grant’s little sister. The pesky kid.

Maybe if Grant hadn’t commanded I stay away from her, it wouldn’t have happened.

Am I that stupid? Tell me I can’t have it, and I want it?

If last week is any indication, maybe it’s true. She wanted to use the BDSM fantasy box with someone else, and I snapped. It had to be me, and then she kicked me out with a raging boner and aching balls.

‘I’ll never tell a soul that I let you touch me.’

Was it that bad? Did I do something wrong?

Hell, she had two orgasms, and I had–nothing. Just heartbreak. And she was the one that was pissed. Isn’t the guy supposed to get angry when he has blue balls?

Heavy footsteps pound down the stairs, and my brother’s head pokes out around the wall. “Hey, bro. What’s up? Mom said you’ve been hiding down here for days.”

I shrug. “I’m not hiding.” It’s not like I can tell him about it. I promised I’d keep it a secret. Heat floods through me. I couldn’t tell him about it anyway. The whole thing is too embarrassing to share with anyone.

“Did you get the job?”

“Yeah, I got the job.” I shove my hands into my pockets. “I was offered a sales position at a car dealership and a spot at the fire station. I’m taking the job at the fire station.” There’s no reason to try and impress Willow by taking a steadier job. Firefighting is what I’m good at, and I like helping people. The simple life is it for me.

“That’s great.” He beams and descends the remaining steps. After he scans the room, he frowns. Apparently, he isn’t impressed with the copious number of empty food cartons. “So, what’s going on with you?”

“Nothing. It’s nothing.” I turn away from him, move to the kitchenette, and grab a beer from the refrigerator.

After we left home, our parents finished the basement. It sucked. We would have loved having our own personal space as teens, which is probably why they waited until we left home. Our parents weren’t stupid.

“Bullshit. What happened?” His feet slap on the tile flooring.

When he reaches me, he grabs my upper arm and spins me around. “Spill it. Did you ask Willow out, and she turned you down?”

“Not exactly.
