ROPEY

Starting stock: 3/8" (10 mm) square stock cut to 13" (330 mm)

1. Leaving 31/2" (90 mm) on one end, forge a round taper into the stock for a total length of 18" (455 mm).

2. Upset the thicker end slightly and then offset the upset with a few angled blows.

3. Use a ball punch to make indents for screws holes at approximately 11/2" (40 mm) and 3" (75 mm) from the upset.

4. Forge a small curl on the tip, then shape into the final form following step 7 above.

REVERSE TWIST

Starting stock: 5/8" (16 mm) round stock cut to 8" (200 mm)

1. Create a reverse twist pattern along 9" (225 mm) of stock, leaving 1" (25 mm) untwisted at one end.
