Unless we repent as a nation and reverse course, I think God is going to bring quick and swift judgment on this nation.1
âFRANKLIN GRAHAM
While being interviewed on a national radio show not long ago, a listener called in to ask, âJeff, where is America in Bible prophecy? What is our role during the end of days?â
Whether youâre a seasoned student of Bible prophecy or just now dipping your toe in the prophetic pool, itâs pretty safe to assume youâve asked the same question. Itâs normal to wonder if the United States is mentioned anywhere in the book of Revelation, or in any of the Bibleâs end-times prophetic scenarios. Itâs a fair question, and one worth addressing. However, at the heart of this matter lies a bit of confusion. For if the chaos and characters depicted in the last book of the Bible are still yet future, it does indeed leave us scratching our heads as to what all this means for our country. Why is it that many say this nation is nowhere mentioned in Bible prophecy, while others claim they see clear biblical references to the United States? Whoâs right? Is it possible America is a prominent end-times player, and like other countries, remains intact until the second coming of Jesus? Or is there evidence to suggest we will simply vanish from historyâs radar and play no significant role in the last days?
Before diving in to uncover the answer, itâs worth addressing another question firstânamely, Why is there such curiosity and interest concerning America in Bible prophecy?
I suspect there are several reasons so many people desire to know the answer to this question.
First, we simply want to know what happens to our country in the end times. After all, itâs our home and we care about it, right? Second, because of our Christian-based beginnings, itâs somewhat strange to think that such a force for Christianity wouldnât play a major role in the last days. Third, America is the worldâs last real superpower. As such, how could we not factor prominently in global end-times events? Why would a smaller country like Turkey upstage a mighty nation like ours? The late great prophecy expert Tim LaHaye wrote, âOne of the hardest things for American prophecy students to accept is that the United States is not clearly mentioned in Bible prophecy, yet our nation is the only superpower in the world today.â2
Fourth, as citizens of this country, we kinda think weâre a big deal. I mean, this is America the Great weâre talking about here! As countries go, weâre like the worldâs most famous celebrity nation. Our impact and influence are felt the world over. So perhaps there is a certain sense of entitlement we feel regarding our role in the end of history.
Some of these reasons are certainly understandable, for as we examine Godâs prophetic plan for the nations, itâs only natural to wonder: Hey, what about us? Where are we in all this?
I believe thereâs a common
