Progress up through the body in this same manner, in other words by first asking that students bring awareness to the new area, then that they feel their weight and aspire to release it into gravity, and then that they visualize the bones in that part of the body. Also invite them to inquire into colloquial expressions related to anatomy. Particular words to point out and ask “What is a ___?” include ones that indicate a complex joint or bone structure with several parts that are commonly given a single name, such as hip, neck, shoulder, or elbow. Continue all the way to the skull, and then end with sensing the full skeletal structure.

Now feel your whole skeleton resting on the earth and being supported by the earth. (Pause for a few moments.) Take a deep breath, in and out. Now let’s do that again, this time letting out any sigh or sound on your exhale. Ready, breathe in, and out.

Take a moment to roll to one side, and rest there for a moment. (Pause.) Keeping your eyes closed, use the bones of your arms to support your weight as you push yourself up to sitting. (Pause.)

Take your time to bring yourself back up to standing, still keeping your eyes closed. When you come to standing, take a few moments to do your body scan again, and just notice what you feel. Does this feel the same as or different from when you stood at the beginning before lying down?

Now take a moment to walk around, or move in any way you would like. How does this feel?
