MAKING CHOICES

At this stage many students, when asked to make a choice, will respond by repeating the last thing you offer. For example, when asking students, “Do you want to color with a marker or with a crayon?” they are most likely to answer “crayon.” You can alternate the order, and if the answer is still “crayon,” this is clearly what was wanted. If, however, on the second try the student says “marker,” then this is where the visual support (either the actual objects or pictures of them) must be offered to determine the student’s preference.
