Safe Haven

In a single income family, a spouse that works outside the home will most likely expect the spouse that does not, to manage the residence. He or she will expect to come home to a safe haven from the stress and turmoil faced in the working world. However, if the spouse that is expected to keep the house clean and orderly, is also caring for small children, the “working” spouse may need to adjust his or her expectations. In a dual income family, the responsibility for home management falls equally on both the husband and wife.

The home should be a peaceful refuge for both parties. If the orderly management of the home becomes a source of conflict, especially when the home-maker is also caring for small children, consider outside domestic help; caring for young children well, can be a full-time job in itself.
