We also want to mention here that there are bloggers who prefer to decline opportunities that come with products, compensation of any kind, and trips. We absolutely respect and understand that many bloggers just want to be diarists recording their lives or to post only topics relating directly to their niche topic. Though we accept products and compensation, we feel we should mention that there is absolutely no reason why any blogger should have to accept anything. Your blog is your platform. It’s your home online. You have the ability to do with it anything you like. Again, this is the power of being a blogger. The canvas you create is your own.
And there are some opportunities that do come with no strings. But don’t expect a trip to Paris to come without them! There are interviews by magazines and newspapers, invitations to conferences, and opportunities to contribute writing a major magazine or newspaper. None of these require you to wear another team’s colors.
However, for most bloggers—or at least for those of you who bought this book—making money and working from home is probably your primary interest. The next step will be a deep dive into how to monetize your website, your digital brand, and your budding social media skills. We like to call it Step 5: Manage the Benjamins.
