SUCCESS (own it!)
Kelly Rae Roberts
TDOY: We know that you use your intuition as one of your main business tools. How do you think following your intuition can influence success, both in business and in life in general?
KRR: I think it’s everything. When I think about all of my business (and life) tools that I store in my toolbox, intuition is the most powerful. At its very core lives the essence of OUR voice, and our voice and sincere presence in our businesses are the absolute number-one secret ingredient to making it all rewarding, worthwhile, and incredibly effective when it comes to things like branding, marketing, and inserting as much soul as possible into our businesses (and lives).
TDOY: The thriving creative business that you’ve created is an inspiration to many—not only your uplifting artwork, but also your willingness to share your knowledge and experience with others in order to help them create their own successful businesses. How do you think this generosity and openness has helped in the success of your business?
KRR: It’s been hugely helpful. I essentially have two branches of my business: an art business where I sell my art, license my designs, etc., and an information business where I share everything I’ve learned along the way when it comes to building a creative business. My information business was born out of a sincere desire to share and be open with my resources and information because when I was starting my own creative business, I had a very hard time finding anyone who would share basic information and resources with me.
I promised myself that should I have success down the road with my creative biz, that I would share all the resources openly, and that’s what I’ve done. It’s become a part of my mission to mentor and inspire other creatives to GO FOR IT. I absolutely understand that we can’t (and shouldn’t) share certain things that are proprietary, but I can certainly share my tricks, resources, and valuable information to help others along in their business paths.
I deeply believe there is room for all of us, and the more of us having success doing what we love to do, the better. The result? The decision to start the information branch of my creative business has proven to be hugely successful for my overall brand and constitutes about half of my total income. Its success has fed into my art sales and vice versa. The mission with both is the same: to help others discover their own limitlessness in life, in art and in business.
TDOY: How has your idea of success changed since you started your creative business? What did success look like to you before you found your creative calling, and how did you let go of old notions about yourself to embrace new beliefs around success?
KRR: Being a creative business owner has taught me more than I ever thought I would learn about life, and one of the biggest lessons it has given me is the perspective of success.
