The future USS Strong (DD-467) takes shape on the ways at Bath Iron Works (BIW). Hull number 193 was among the first six of an eventual 31 2,100-ton Fletcher-class destroyers constructed by the Maine shipbuilder, and by the time Hugh Miller first saw his new ship it had been under construction for 366 days.
