DESIGN No. 10 is very suitable for table aprons, or rails. Care should be taken to cut with parting tool on upper line only, and cutting should be quite shallow. With parting tool, cut center lines, finishing cuts to either end, but deepening quickly at top. Then roughly round corners, finishing with large flat gouge. At the bottom of hollows, use ” gouge. If the design is large, two cuts may be necessary. Hold gouge with hollow side toward body on a distinct angle. This leaves a sloping edge, giving strength, and holding the light. It may be necessary for better effect to use a number seven gouge for this purpose, first cutting down the center from the top, then easing away to either side.

If Designs Nos. 10-14 are carved on one panel, as shown, the panel should measure no less than 8” vertically.
