Chapter 11: The Genealogy of Christ
Moving from the Old Testament to the New Testament, we see that the Gospels begin with a difficulty that has probably become the most famous example of an alleged biblical contradiction. We speak, of course, of the different genealogies of Christ given in the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke.
Before going any further, we should cite the genealogies of Christ as found in Matthew and Luke in their entirety. First, the genealogy as found in the Gospel of St. Matthew, chapter 1:1–17:
