I spend the rest of the county fair in a haze of joy.

He wasn’t with Claire.

He takes it in stride, though. He tries five different fried foods and declares that fried ice cream is delicious but fried turkey legs are disgusting. We ride the Ferris wheel like we’re in a movie, and when we’re at the top, he kisses me, and it’s soft and wanting and passionate.
