Making the Blocks

For each block, you will need the following pieces:

Four matching triangles

Four matching 1½" x 8" strips

One 1½" square

Use a scant ¼"-wide seam allowance throughout. After sewing each seam, press the seam allowances as indicated by the arrows.

1 Lay out the pieces for each block as shown. Sew the pieces together in diagonal rows, and then sew the rows together to complete the block. Make a total of 36 blocks.

2 Position a 12½" square ruler with a 45° line on top of a block, centering the 45° line in the middle of the narrow strip. Align the 5" lines on the ruler horizontally and vertically with the points of the small center square and the 10" marks with the center of the narrow strips as shown. Trim two sides of the block. Turn the block, realign the ruler, and trim the remaining sides. Each block should measure 10" square.
