Man’s Overalls (Coveralls)

Overalls present a final variation on clothing that consists of tubes. In overalls, a large tube covering the entire trunk is joined to two tubes below—one for each leg. The entire garment hangs from the shoulders and is compressed at the bottom, where the pant legs hit the ground or the tops of the feet. (Coveralls are basically the same, although they have sleeves in addition to these forms.)

The long length and simple nature of this garment give rise to long, diagonally looping folds from the hip to the bottom of the pant leg. These may vary, depending on the cut of the individual piece.

Although overalls are usually designed without a tapering at the waist, you should be aware of the gentle horizontal compression band that nonetheless forms as the garment sits atop the hips.

A certain amount of trace folds will be visible at the level of the groin, complying to the fold of the thighs.

Compression bands will also form around the ankles, where a sizable portion of the weight of the cloth may push against the tops of the feet.
