These are but a few of the characteristics of a skilled Artist Entrepreneur.

WHERE ARE THE VENUES?

As you were in the process of creating your “masterpiece,” hopefully you could envision what venues are most compatible for what you’ve created. You’ve attended concerts, theatrical events, musicals, dance recitals, gallery showings, multimedia presentations to gain a sense of what type of venue might be a good fit for what you’ve created. While partaking of these artistic events, hopefully you have imagined your creation on stage or on display. You’ve looked at the size of the venue, the kind of clientele, the ticket prices, the caliber of artists who are part of the various series’. All of these variables help you to size up where you might fit at the moment. If you’re a classical artist and you observe that Yo Yo Ma, Modori, Christopher Wool, or the Turtle Island String Quartet are part of the concert series or exhibition, and you’re just launching your career, you might not be ready to be in that same league just yet; however understanding an artist’s path can be extraordinarily helpful. You may need to find other venues that are still producing quality performances, but on maybe a lower scale. This doesn’t make you any less of an artist, you simply need to wait your turn and continue to develop your craft. Sometimes it takes a long time to become an overnight success!
