Negative Emotions Weaken Your Immune System.

According to Medical News Today, your brain links any negative emotion to a lower immune system response. This counts when trying to prevent diseases in the body, claim researchers.

Previous studies have also shown that emotions and stress can affect the immune system, but it hasn’t been directly associated with activity in the brain, according to Richard Davidson, a leader at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in the U.S.

The team studied the prefrontal cortex in the brain, which is mainly associated with depression. They found that people who had the greatest activity in the right prefrontal cortex when asked to dwell on distressing episodes in their life had decreased antibody levels after receiving an influenza vaccination.

Some who showed exceptional activity in the prefrontal cortex, on the other hand, recalled feeling happier during the period in which they developed higher levels of antibodies.

Davidson suggests that emotions play a significant role in regulating systems in the body that influence health. The study also showed that most people with a pattern of brain activity that has been associated with positive emotions also responded best to the vaccine.

He continued to explain that it suggests a mechanism for why subjects with a more positive emotional disposition could potentially be healthier.
