Morris

If I had the ability to choose the man who sired me, Chris Wolfguard wouldn't have made the list. His grey eyes are piercing cold as they study me, and even as an adult, I can't completely hide the shiver of revulsion that moves through me at the thought of being related to him.

He is the reason I chose to pursue teaching. I wanted to break as many ties with him as possible. However, he still holds the biggest trump card against me, wielding it as he pleases. That is how he made me come back to Portland, to begin with. I've been trying to avoid him ever since, but even I can't ignore a summons from the Alpha.

His hair is greying, and he looks tired. However, his eyes are still as sharp as ever, and I know he has no plans of abdicating his seat. Even if I end up becoming the Alpha, Chris will still be behind the scenes, using me as a puppet. He has one of my biggest weaknesses in his control, and even as an Alpha, I wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

"I don't have time for your ridiculous notions," My father says coolly. "It's about time you take over the family business now. I've already introduced you to multiple women. Take a mate and stop this teaching hobby of yours. We cannot have the heir to the Wolfguard Pack wasting his time as a college teacher."

"And I already told you," I bite out, "I have no interest in taking over the family business. You are running it just fine."

My father glares at me, "Do you expect me to remain the Alpha once I'm past my prime? I sired you for this very purpose. It's the only one thing Leslie has been useful for."

My eyes narrow, "Don't take my mother's name with your mouth."

Chris scoffs, "I take no pleasure in taking that useless woman's name."

My fists tighten by my side as rage fills me. My eyes flicker towards the woman lounging on the sofa, clad in nothing more than a nightie. Her lack of proper clothes no longer bothers me. She's been that way since the moment my father brought her into our family home, the one that my maternal grandfather gifted him and my mother for their wedding gift.

She sighs, leaning back against the couch, a taunting smile on her lips, “Darling, I don’t understand why you are so adamant about forcing Morris to inherit the family business when James is perfectly willing and capable of doing so.”

"James is my son-in-law, Ellie. He cannot inherit the family business. And it's unheard of to have my stepdaughter's husband become the Alpha."

It's my turn to sneer at my father's mistress, enjoying the way her lip curls in anger, her expression stiffening. Despite how much my father pampers her, at the end of the day, Ellie is just his mistress, and the woman my father claims as his daughter is not related by blood to him.
