I wake up, and everything seems new. It’s morning.

Olivia and I fell asleep in each other’s arms. But Olivia is not in bed now. Though her spot next to me is still warm.

And quickly, I understand why Olivia is not present. I smell coffee and food and hear music playing.

I sit up and stretch. My muscles ache in a good way from a delicious night of lovemaking.

I go straight to the front of the house, to the kitchen, and find Olivia dancing and cooking.

She looks sexy wearing only a t-shirt. I enjoy watching the way that she moves her hips.

She startles when her eyes sweep past me as she moves. “Damnit, Oseer. You scared the crap out of me.”

“I apologize,” I say, as my eyes skim her form.

She greets me with a hug. I run my hands down her back, and they land underneath her t-shirt and on her butt.

Immediately, a jolt of excitement passes through me, and I know that this is the woman I am supposed to spend the rest of my life with.

Or at least I want to spend my time with her. She will be the final decider of things now that my body has approved her as my mate.

She kisses me on the cheek. “Mmm. I missed you,” she says. “Hungry?”

I am hungry. I worked up quite the appetite during last night’s activities, but I also need to go for a swim. “I will make time to eat,” I tell her. “Thank you for preparing a meal for us.”

Olivia smiles. “Of course,” she says.

“I’ll return the favor this evening,” I say. “I will prepare a traditional Phaestion meal for you."

“Mmm. That sounds fun,” Olivia says.

“I will have to improvise on some things. Not every item is available at the commissary. But there are some Phaestion items on the shelves.”

Olivia bites her bottom lip. “Yeah, I noticed that at the store when I went. I had no idea what any of the alien things were, but they looked interesting. It was cool to see the variety. Maybe I ought to try some things.”

“Yes, try all you like. Those foreign things you see at the grocery store are imported. Also, I think alien cooking classes are still being held at the Colony Community Center. And by alien, I mean alien to you and alien to me. One of my coworkers took the human cooking class. He insists that he cooks human food better than a human. I’ve tasted his food. I am not so sure of his assessment.”

Olivia laughs. “I bet you miss the food on Phaestion.”

I shrug. “Human food is good. I enjoy both. If you don’t want to take the cooking classes, you can find foreign recipes on Colony Home Base.”

“Colony Home Base? What’s that?” Olivia asks. “Like a forum?”

“More than that. It’s a place where Colony Center residents can gather digitally," I say. "There’s a knowledge base with compiled data from different sources. On it, you can find out community news in addition to all sorts of facts about Colony Center and its residents.
