“Holy crap!” I said, smiling to wide my face almost split in two. The conference was incredible. So many upbeat teachers and laughter all around us, and Christopher stood right next to me as we checked in. Posters of speakers were everywhere, and I pointed to one, Heather Smith, and squealed. “Oh my God, she’s my idol. I know you’re a boring traditionalist, but her work on flexible seating is my teaching bible.”

“Not boring.”

“Eh, a little bit,” I teased, adding a wink on the end.

He rolled his eyes, and we made our way to the large table organized alphabetically.

“Hi, Mountain Elementary. Gilly Carter and Christopher Callahan.”

Christopher’s chest hit my back as we waited for our lanyards and conference information, and that slight touch alone got me hot. We’d taken my car since it had fewer miles on it, and it just got out of the shop and took turns driving. It was amazing how fast the two-hour drive went with all our talking.

No kisses though. Just an accidental brush of the hand or this, where he stood close to me, and it was making me desperate for more. He told me all about his family, and I shared stories about Fritz and Grace from college. It was wonderful to chat and get to know him more.

“You have some time to check into your room before the welcoming session starts, so take your time. Meet down in the foyer around seven. Enjoy!” the woman said, her own smile making mine get bigger.

This was so cool.

“Care if I drop my stuff off in your room until I can head to my buddy’s place later?” he asked, a heated look entering his eyes.

“Yeah, of course,” I said, trying really hard not to think about just the two of us in a hotel room alone…with a few hours to kill. “I want to set this suitcase up there.”

We headed toward the elevator, and we had to wait a good ten minutes before we could get on. It was that busy. The doors dinged, and we moved inside, the crowd of everyone trying to get in with their friends making us stand even closer. This time, we were chest to chest.

I looked up, my face even with his chest, and his parted lips and flared nostrils made my stomach squirm with need. He smelled like laundry and soap, and when he dragged his tongue over his bottom lip, I squeezed my eyes shut. Was he trying to kill me with lust?

Was that what this was?

I groaned, and as soon as the sound left my mouth, Christopher tensed and sucked in a hard breath. I peeked one eye open at him, and he looked seconds away from snapping. About damn time.

The journey to the eighth floor took a few minutes, and each chime meant we were that much closer until we would be alone—which was sounding better and better. Would we kiss again? Like the car? Did I want to do more? Yeah. I did. I wanted his body on mine, his rough kisses and desperate touches.
