Directions

Select an appropriate reader’s theater script for students. With no explanation of the plot, read the last scene first. Then lead a discussion about what happens in the scene. Guide students in making predictions about what must have happened previously in the play in order for this scene to take place. Read the scene prior to the last scene, and ask students to predict what happens in the previous scene. Continue with this process until you reach the first scene. Finish the activity by emphasizing that each scene is an individual part of the story but that each part builds on the previous one in the telling of the narrative. Remove one scene, or reorder them, and the narrative collapses.
