Pinchushion flower (Scabiosa) is easily grown from seed.

You’ll want to moisten the peat pots before you add the growing medium (potting mix), so run the pots under some cool water first so they can absorb some moisture.

Garden soil is too dense to plant seeds in. Instead, purchase a bag of seed-starting mix or potting mix. The teeny-tiny roots of your seedlings can’t penetrate garden soil and they’ll go bust on you; then you’ll blame me. A soil-less seed-starting mix such as a mix of vermiculite, cocopeat (which is a renewable resource, unlike peat moss), and perlite will protect your seeds from damping off and dying on you. All of these increase aeration and drainage. You’ll find this mix at most nurseries and garden centers. You’ll want to mix this growing medium in a bowl with water to dampen it. Let it sit in a strainer for some time to drain and then use it to fill your peat pots. (If the medium is too dry, germination won’t occur, and if it’s too wet, the seeds could rot. Isn’t seed sowing fun!?) Fill each pot with the mixture.
