I CAN’T EAT THAT
There is a difference between an ingredient you don’t like and one that will kill you. No one is worth dying for, but personal dislikes at someone else’s table should be endured with style. When a bowl of garlic mayonnaise is placed on the host’s summer lunch table to go with the platter of vegetables, a loud exclamation, “I LOATHE GARLIC,” is bratty. It upsets the tone of the event and puts the other guests on edge. No one is forcing it on you, and if they are, a “No, thank you,” is all you need to keep the garlic off your plate. If it’s already on your plate, just don’t eat it.
