“Hmm, I don’t see Lloyd anywhere… What a shame.”

“I heard the cadets from Azami were here and came running, but…hmm.”

Sou and Shouma were elegantly sipping tea, searching for Lloyd.

Then Amidine came rushing over, out of breath.

“Yo, Amidine,” Shouma greeted, blinking at him. “What’s up? Jogging to shed a few pounds? Passion!”

“Please!” Amidine begged, bowing low. “I need your help!”

Sou and Shouma glanced at each other, taken aback.

“Hmm, perhaps start with some water,” Sou said, pouring him a glass.

Amidine chugged it and then began to explain the situation.

All about Sardin’s plan to bring in Azami soldiers as backup. How Amidine had failed to off their main agent…and how that could disrupt the entire movie enterprise.

He switched between acknowledging his own failings and offering apologies between explanations.

Sou and Shouma listened gravely.

“If we don’t do something, it could all go under. But with your help… You don’t need to kill him. You could lock him up somewhere or…or even just get him kicked out of the military!”

Sou offered absolutely nothing.

Looking increasingly desperate, Amidine admitted, “I know, killing people is my job. But if I make the wrong move here, my cover’s blown. They’ll know I’m with the mob.”

“Listen. This is very important,” Shouma said. “Was one of the Azami cadets named Lloyd? Cute kid, chestnut hair?”

“Er, no…I’ve read all the paperwork, and there was nobody named Lloyd.”

Amidine blinked at him, rattled by the question. Paying this no heed…

“Then let’s send them packing!” Shouma cried.

“Mm.”

They readily agreed to the task at hand.

What does Lloyd have to do with anything?!

Amidine kept a smile plastered on his face, disguising the screaming inside. “Thank you,” he said, bowing his head low.

“Developing the world is vital,” Sou added. “If they would interfere with that, they are not welcome here.”

Amidine relaxed at last.

Then Shouma asked, “So who was it that didn’t die when you shot them? Selen? Her belt, Vritra, might be able to pull off a trick like that, but we can’t kill her! She’s Lloyd’s friend.”

The wind back in his sails, Amidine pointed to the man who refused to die—Roy Akizuki, aka Lloyd Belladonna.

“That boy there. Roy Akizuki.”

““………”” They both froze instantly.

“Um? Hello? Is something wrong?”

Neither seemed to hear Amidine’s question. They were both staring fixedly at the young man under discussion.

“What do you make of it, Shouma?”

“That’s definitely Lloyd. The way he’s keeping that piece of candy in his cheek, the way he shifts his weight from side to side, the way he’s fussing with his hair—all Lloyd things.”

These two Lloyd addicts had seen through his disguise instantly. Shouma was being downright creepy.

“Has his current form…been caused by one of Alka’s runes?”

“I bet the chief just wanted to dress him up and convinced him extras need to be tall or something. And Akizuki… Isn’t that her old name?”

“Ruka Akizuki, I believe. Eug got all clever with it and turned that into Aruka, then Alka.”

Amidine was feeling entirely left out now, not understanding a word of this. He elected to listen in silence. Who are these people?
