During a television interview, Dick Cavett told me a wonderful story about his friend who several years ago took a different speed-reading program. During the introduction to this reading program, his teacher described how everyone would be able to use their new reading skill to master the important information in newspapers and magazines. He also told the students they would be able to speed quickly through inconsequential reading such as novels. Dick’s friend loved novels. He enrolled in the speed reading class to develop an ability to read novels quickly. Disgusted by the teacher’s put-down of fiction, Dick’s friend left the speed-reading program. Good for him. Learning to enjoy fiction at high speed should be a feature of any good speed-reading program. Fiction reading is an important form of pleasure reading. I would love to share with you my secrets for reading and enjoying fiction at high speed.
