Clear seed tray covers work well to cover the tender seedbed if the polyethylene sheeting covers are not going to be used. Make sure to use a piece of bent-over wire like a giant staple to punch through each end of the covers and into the bale to hold them in place.

When the covers come off, the netting goes on

Once the poly covers (or the row cover cloth) can come off for the summer, it is a good idea to replace the cover with bird netting. Bird netting is by definition meant to keep birds from damaging the garden, but it does a good job of keeping rabbits and deer from doing major damage as well. Normally I like to drape the netting over top of the top wood rail on the trellis and let it fall down to the ground on both sides. Netting, much like polyethylene, comes in many different sizes, but I would recommend the 14-foot width, and whatever length your garden calls for. I like the 3/4-inch mesh; it works best for birds and rabbits, and keeps the deer away as well.
