Chapter 13

Lily turned the lock and leaned against the door. Her employees had their marching orders. Everything was going smoothly, for now, because she always expected a few hang-ups. What she wasn’t sure about was if she could go back upstairs with Ozz. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t figure out how to snap him into reality. Bad things happened all the time. It was part of life. She glanced up at his gorgeous face. “What if I took you out to dinner? You know, so I don’t have to clean the kitchen again.”

Ozz barked out a laugh, but the way he held his body rigid said he was only going through the motions. “We can do that. We need to discuss Krissy.”

“Do we have to?” She detected a whine in her tone, but she did not want to talk about the woman who was crushing on her Ozz. The last thing she needed to be reminded of was how easily he could get other women to fall into bed with him, considering how quickly she fell in there herself. Technically, it was her bed, but she wasn’t going to quibble with herself about semantics.

Ozz looked at her with those sinful eyes. “I think you should get rid of her. You don’t need that in your bar.”

She had no idea what that meant, because Krissy was good at what she did. The other woman didn’t understand that being a manager required more bookwork than being an assistant. Krissy knew how to count a drawer and close up for the night, but she couldn’t make a schedule, handle complaining customers, or make a proper supply order. “I have time to think about it. The last thing I want to do is fire people before there is anything official happening.” She mentally shook thoughts of work out of her head. “How about the diner out by Route 30 for dinner? Their food is not nearly as good as yours, but I figured going out would save us the awkwardness of being at home.”

His head cocked, and then he did that adorable huff he did when irritated. Damn, he was so wolf sometimes. He rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m not being an asshole on purpose.”

No, he was being one with purpose, which was worse. She’d come to the conclusion he'd pushed people away for so long, he no longer knew how to get close to anyone, aside from maybe Nico. The other werewolf knew all of Ozz’s gory, intimate details while she was still not supposed to know anything. “Let’s go do something like friends. No talk about bars, mating, or danger. I want to have a fun night with you. Where do we go to achieve that?”

His expression was lost, and he rubbed over his heart with a fist. “I’m new here. I don’t know any good places to hang out other than the bar I closed.”

She let out a harsh sigh and grabbed his hand. “Come on. I know where we can go.
