Task

Do you have a stash of photographs that you have kept, just waiting for the time to do something with them that will bring them to life? Collect a group of them that appeal to you at this moment.

In an art journal, practice arranging them across two pages. What story do they tell? What do they make you remember? A special time, a sad time, a time you are grateful for? Write down this story and why, at this moment, you picked these images.

Today on My Worktable...

What we choose changes us. Who we love transforms us. How we create reshapes us. What we do remakes us.

—Dr. Eugene S. Callender

Late this afternoon my worktable is filled to the brim with ideas for future collages. Very similar to my piles of colored papers that I love to bundle up are my piles of images that might work together in a collage. They are together because of their colors, their theme or even because of their contrasts in color or feeling. The side of a rusted tin barrel, an autumn leaf, a Buddha, a yellow leaf with a turquoise bead on it. Blues and reds, shades of black and white, reflections, a cat sitting in a doorway of a shop in a small Oregon town. Metal and stone, paper and glass, fabric and paper. A magnifying glass that I had given my father. All brought together in this creative process of mine.
