Making the cushion back

1. Cut two pieces of linen measuring 35.5cm × 18cm (14in × 7in) and 35.5cm × 25.5cm (14in × 10in). Turn under 6mm (1⁄4in) along one long edge of each rectangle, turn under again and hem.

2. Overlap the two hemmed pieces of fabric until they measure 35.5cm × 35.5cm (14in × 14in).

3. Pin the cushion back to the cushion front, right sides together, and sew around the outside edge on the same line as the ric-rac. Snip the corners and trim the seams. Zig zag over the seams to prevent fraying and turn the right way out.

4. Make two covered buttons using the small rabbit motif (see Small Buttons Motifs) for the embroidery and following the instructions in the Techniques section.

5. Fold the ribbon pieces in half and sew 12.5cm (5in) in from each side on the underside of the top flap to form the button loops. Sew the buttons on the opposite flap so that they line up with the button loops.
