TIP

The basic pattern size is 12˝ × 14˝. If you’d like the pattern to accommodate a 9˝ square or round dish, enlarge it 2˝–3˝ along the long sides and 1˝–2˝ on the short sides. Measure the perimeter of the finished carrier before cutting the bias binding to make sure you cut enough.

INSTRUCTIONS

All seam allowances are ¼˝.

Carrier

The pattern for the corners is on page 58. Trace and cut the pattern piece from tracing paper or template plastic.

1. Layer the lining fabric, wrong side up, with the Insul-Fleece and outer fabric, right side up. Repeat with the second set.

2. Quilt each sandwich as desired.

3. Use the pattern to trim the corners from the pieces.

4. Fold a piece crosswise, and finger-press the fold. Cut on the fold to make 2 halves. This will become the carrier’s top. Along the cut line of each half, trim ⅛˝ from the edge. This will create a slight gap when the carrier is finished to provide ease for inserting and removing the dish.

5. Trim 2 pieces of binding 14˝ long. Fold and press them in half lengthwise. Sew them to the trimmed edges of each half of the carrier’s top. Bring the binding to the lining side, and sew it in place by hand or machine.
