A Fool and Her Money

On my television show I have often said: “God protects babies and fools. You’re no baby, and the court doesn’t protect fools.” In one of the cases before me, a woman let a man move into her home after she had known him only a week. He took her body, heart, and four thousand dollars. Another woman lent her brother several thousand dollars knowing he was a gambler. And yet another woman got to know a man on a Christian website and bought him a car before she had even seen him! Listen to me, if you throw gas on a fire in your kitchen, your whole house will burn down. If you do foolish things then the consequences are never going to be positive. It never fails! You just met a man, somebody you barely know, let him move into your house, give him everything he asks for, and you think he’s going to treat you like a queen? It’s not going to happen. You can’t go crying, “Oh, why does he treat me this way?” You let him in; he didn’t force his way into your house at gunpoint. You showered him with gifts and goodies and he treated you like a doormat. But YOU let him in! So you gotta learn to own the responsibility for your actions as well as the consequences of your actions. You are responsible for respecting yourself and behaving in ways that create respect from the men you come into contact with.

A woman, Christina, who I once represented, pinned her hopes for more than twenty years on gaining the love of the same man. They met when she was barely out of her teens, and he eventually fathered three of her children. The third child was conceived after the man had moved on and married another woman. Christina and the new Mrs. were pregnant at the same time! That the man had moved on to another woman and to another family did not stop and has not stopped Christina from continually making a fool of herself. She has bought him airline tickets and financed vacations that included members of his new family in order to remain close to him. She has run up her credit cards by buying him expensive clothes, electronic gadgets, and gourmet restaurant dinners. Now mind you, he is married and has a whole other family. But Christina is willing to accept the crumbs of time and affection that he doles out to her as he pleases. She hasn’t gotten smart enough to realize that he only comes around when he needs something.

You know what the saddest part of Christina’s situation is? It’s the message that she is sending to her children. She is giving her children a warped message about the way male and female relationships work. She has set a horrible example for them about dignity and worth.
