The lambs panicked. They scattered in all directions, their mothers galloping after them.
Oh no! thought Star. I’m losing them. She ran faster, circling round and round them, but the lambs panicked even more, scrambled over the wall, and charged off up the hillside.
“YOUNG PUP!” An old ewe barred Star’s way. She stamped her foot and snorted. She glared at Star. “Just what do you think you’re doing, scaring the lambs like that? Do you want them to run off the edge of the mountain?”
Star sat down. She stared at her feet. Why did she have to be so fast? Why couldn’t she control herself?
Other sheep started to crowd around Star in a circle. “It’s no way for a border collie to behave,” baa-ed one.
