This yarn measures 14 wraps per inch (wpi).

If you finish the yarn and then take these measurements, you may be fooling yourself. Some fibers puff and fluff considerably with washing. This will mean that if you measure the twists per inch and the wraps per inch after finishing, you may end up with a very different yarn when you try to duplicate it based on those specifications.

Wraps Per Inch

The number of wraps per inch (wpi) indicates the grist or weight of the yarn. Wrap a strand of yarn around a ruler or wpi gauge, holding the yarn so that it doesn’t kink but without stretching it. The wraps should be close enough to each other to cover the ruler or space but not so close that they crowd each other. Count the number of wraps per inch at several different places in your skein in case the diameter of the yarn changed as you were spinning.
