“What is he, shy?” Jameson yelled, pounding his fist on the desk. “He doesn’t want to be famous? Put an ad on the front page. ‘Cash paid for a picture of Spider-Man!’ Someone will get a shot of him, I guarantee it.”

“Maybe he doesn’t want to be famous, boss,” Robertson suggested.

“Fine!” Jameson railed. “Then I’ll make him infamous!”

Peter Parker raced across the campus of Empire State University in Manhattan. Since he had started college, it felt as if he was always late for something—classes, appointments, dinner. Trying to juggle his life as a student and a superhero, not to mention trying to earn a few bucks, left him wishing for more hours in the day.

As he dashed into the university’s science building, his fingers swiftly buttoned his shirt, hiding the red-and-blue costume beneath.

“Dr. Connors!” Peter shouted, spotting the one-armed professor walking down the hall.

“You’re an hour late, Parker,” Dr. Curt Connors said, sighing and shaking his head. “Class is over. You missed another session.”

“I’m sorry,” Peter blurted out. “It won’t—”

“Look, Peter,” Dr. Connors continued. “You have a great scientific mind, but you can’t seem to get your priorities straight. You’ve been late six times this semester.”

“Professor, please let me explain,” Peter begged.

“This is a paid internship,” Dr. Connors went on, ignoring Peter’s plea. “Do you know how many freshmen applied for it? Do you know how many would even do it for free!”
