For example, the hearing officer in Murrieta Valley Unified School District , 23 IDELR 997 (SEA CA 1995), found that a 15-year-old student with a diagnosed narcissistic personality disorder met none of the five possible criteria for a serious emotional disturbance under IDEA regulations at 34 CFR Sec. 300.7(b)(9) (now 34 CFR 300.8(c)(4)), even though he experienced several episodes of violent behavior and "psychotic breaks" at home at times when he felt thwarted or frustrated.
