Case Study

We investigated student populations to test the feasibility and validity of the method in self-directed learning spaces at Drexel University, a private research university in Philadelphia (Johnson, Nitecki, & Khoo, 2015). Following the University’s Institutional Review Board review of two elements of the research design , the research began in October 2014 and was concluded 21 months later in June 2016.11 Over 600 video files were collected at 16 video recording locations. The locations were selected to capture dense areas of self-directed student activity on the campus. Over 95% of the recordings documented conditions within the University’s main library and associated satellite learning commons.
