Jake tried to take pride in the compliments he got for the pork chops, but his mind was stuck elsewhere. Yeah, the food was delicious, and he was definitely making that mushroom wine sauce again. He just couldn’t concentrate on anything except eating by rote. His brain was still stuck in the living room, watching Cris get his ass blistered.

Cris had been incredibly vulnerable when he finally looked at Jake, allowing Jake to see his pain. To share it with him. He’d hurt for Cris as much as he’d cheered for him. For being so brave and amazing and trusting. When he sat down at the kitchen table to eat, Cris had radiated a kind of peace that Jake had never seen in the man. Jake was a little bit jealous of that inner peace, but he believed what Chet had said earlier about that sort of punishment not being for Jake.

Jake wasn’t sure he wanted to be part of a D/s relationship, but Cris sure as hell had potential, and that thought made his stomach squirrely. Cris and Chet were so perfectly suited for each other, and they probably didn’t see it as clearly as Jake did. They would one day, though, and that’s why he still had a room at Benny’s. He tried to make peace with that, while he choked down a few bites of mashed potatoes.

“I know I’ve already thanked you guys,” Cris said after a few minutes of silence, “but thank you both for today. I was scared shitless to be spanked, but it did help. And I can kind of see how punishment like that works for some couples.”

“You’re welcome,” Chet replied. “I’m thankful it helped you and us. It could have easily backfired on me, and I’m so grateful I read you correctly.”

“You’ve known me long enough to read me.”

Jake tried to hide a flinch.
