1.) Lt Evans, who fired half a drum into a Roland from 25 yards.

2.) Lt McKay, who attacked a Roland which ceased to fire and was seen to fall in a spinning nose-dive by several pilots.

3.) Lt Chapman, who attacked a Fokker, and saw it crash and burst into flames.

4.) Capt. Chamberlain. One Roland or one Fokker, or perhaps both seen to fall out of control by observer on the ground.31 Major Lanoe Hawker, 24 Squadron, RFC

The observers in the corps aircraft that witnessed the dogfight were Lieutenants Coller and Scaife in a humble BE2 C.

When doing artillery observation over Ginchy several machines were seen fighting at 8,000 feet. We made off in the direction of the machines, and the pilot opened fire from the rear mounting on the Type F machine just above. This machine got on to the tail of a de Havilland, which apparently could not get rid of him. We followed the hostile machine down and with the third drum, tracers appeared to enter him and smoke was seen. He side-slipped and left the de Havilland apparently going East. The hostile machine went down in flames soon afterwards on the Bazentin le Petit railway. A second enemy machine was seen crashed East of Bazentin le Petit and a third in flames South East of Martinpuich.32 Lieutenant Bernard Coller, 9 Squadron, RFC
