Castile Soap

This soap recipe is for 100% olive oil soap with a castile soap base. It is a very simple recipe to follow and very easy to make. The only extra things you will need are some containers to pour the soap in when it is finished and some cheesecloth.

Ingredients:

Olive Oil – 14 ounces (400 grams)

Water – 7 ounces (200 grams)

Lye – 1.5 ounces (45 grams)

Essential Oil – optional

Instructions:

Step 1: Weigh the olive oil, water, and lye into a heat-proof glass bowl. Place the bowl in the sink and fill it with enough cold water to create a double boiler effect.

Step 2: Heat the mixture until it reaches approximately 100 degrees Celsius. Be very careful not to exceed 100 degrees as this will start to cook the soap. Remove from heat and allow to cool until the temperature is less than 80 degrees.

Step 3: Add essential oils if you are using them; stir well. Pour into containers and cover with cheesecloth secured with a rubber band. (This helps prevent any splashing when you pour.) Allow setting for 48 hours.

Step 4: Remove cheesecloth and cut into bars.
