Cross Contour Drawing

Basically, contour in drawing is an outline or a line that runs across the form of a shape, like the contours of a map.

Sometimes, these contours are drawn very directly, but often these are to guide the artists in their shading and hatching. It is implied by the direction of shading and makes more meaningful instead of being random. This helps the viewer to view the image in three dimensions that sees it as something flat.
